2025 Projects

WCOA’s 2025 initiatives will emphasize collaborative, cross-jurisdictional ocean management across federal, state, and Tribal governments along the U.S. West Coast. A summary of the projects that will be addressed is below. This summary outlines the projects WCOA will undertake in their third year, from 2025 to 2026.

  • Continued coordination across federal, state, and Tribal members to ensure effective management and implementation of WCOA's goals, including finalizing a new 5-year strategic plan.

  • Support a second cohort of fellows to bolster WCOA’s project activities in areas like policy, data, and communications, offering professional development for early-career individuals.

  • Provide resources to enable Tribal governments to engage meaningfully in WCOA projects, enhancing regional collaboration with state and federal partners.

  • Upgrade the portal's infrastructure to enhance accessibility, data integration, and overall usability for regional stakeholders.

  • Host an annual in-person summit to promote collaboration, prioritize common ocean management needs, and strengthen working relationships across levels of government.

  • Conduct a needs assessment to catalog current regional efforts tracking impacts of ocean stressors and identifying data gaps, providing a foundation for potential future regional cumulative impact analyses on the West Coast

  • Host an exclusive annual Tribal summit to foster dialogue on ocean management priorities among Tribal entities, sharing updates and identifying collaborative opportunities.

  • Add new health indicators to the dashboard to support WCOA members' efforts in tracking regional ocean health.
